Double Your Impact Before December 31: New Tax Laws Coming in 2026

Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy continues to protect open space, restore native habitat, and create meaningful outdoor experiences for families, students, and visitors every day.

As we close out the year, there is a special opportunity to make your gift go even further.

Every Gift Is Matched Dollar-for-Dollar

Now through December 31, every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar, instantly doubling your impact on local land conservation, habitat restoration, and environmental education.

Whether you choose to give once or deepen your commitment through one of our Membership Circles, your support helps safeguard the places that make the Peninsula so special.

Leave a Lasting Legacy for the Peninsula

You can also make a long-term impact by including the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy in your estate plans. Naming the Conservancy as a beneficiary of your IRA, retirement plan, or life insurance policy ensures your commitment to conservation lives on—with no minimum gift required.

Those who designate a planned gift automatically become members of our Golden Poppy Heritage Circle, receiving recognition in publications and invitations to special events. Legacy gifts and IRA contributions are also 100% tax-deductible, allowing you to maximize your impact while potentially reducing taxable income.

Benefits of Giving Through Your IRA

Important Tax Changes Coming in 2026 — What You Should Know

Several major federal tax law changes affecting charitable giving take effect January 1, 2026, and they may influence how donors plan and maximize their contributions.

New Limits on Itemized Charitable Deductions

Starting in 2026, individuals who itemize deductions will face new limitations:

  • A new 0.5% “floor” on charitable deductions means only the portion of your giving that exceeds 0.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI) will be deductible.
  • For those in the highest income tax brackets, the tax benefit of itemized deductions — including charitable gifts — will be capped at 35%, potentially reducing the tax value of large gifts.

These changes could reduce the deduction value of charitable giving for many donors beginning next year.

New Deduction for Non-Itemizers

For the first time in several years, donors who take the standard deduction will again be able to claim a limited charitable deduction:

  • Up to $1,000 for individual filers
  • Up to $2,000 for married couples filing jointly

This creates new tax advantages for everyday donors who previously did not receive a deduction for their giving.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) Remain Powerful

If you are 70½ or older, making a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA will continue to be one of the most tax-efficient ways to give. QCDs count toward your RMD and are excluded from taxable income — benefits that remain especially valuable under the new rules.

Estate and Gift Tax Exemptions Are Increasing

Federal estate and lifetime gift tax exemptions are expected to rise significantly in 2026. While fewer estates may owe federal estate tax, planned charitable gifts remain a meaningful way to preserve personal values, support conservation, and potentially reduce estate taxes.

What this means for you: Many donors are choosing to accelerate gifts into 2025 to take advantage of today’s more favorable rules before new limitations begin. Consulting your financial advisor can help ensure your generosity is structured in the most impactful and tax-efficient way.
